Child Protection
All staff and students are familiar with and will act in accordance with our Child Protection Policy. This policy reflects guidance and regulations as set out in the Safe and Well document and Glasgow City Council.
If a child in the nursery is suspected of being abused or neglected, the following procedure should be undertaken:
- The staff member should comfort the child, making sure the child is ok. The staff member should not pose any leading questions or display shock / upset.
- The staff member concerned should relate as accurately as possible what the child has said / what they have seen, to their manager as soon as possible. The staff member should complete an Appendix 3: "Record of Concern Alert". The manager should record this in the Child Protection File.
- The manager will then make an assessment of the situation ensuring all potential avenues of explanation for any physical, emotional, behavioural or appearance changes / problems should be explored and recorded.
- If the outcome of the above indicates acts of abuse or neglect are unlikely the manager will advise the staff member of this and keep on record for future reference.
- If the outcome of the above indicates acts of abuse or neglect the manager will then consult the Social Services Practise Team Leader.
- A written report on all issues regarding the situation must be provided by the manager using Appendix 5: "Notice of Referral to the ASL Section". All dates, times and specific facts must be recorded in this report.
- Single Agency Referral Form will also be submitted if the child is already known to support agencies.
- A file will be created and kept, with restricted access, in the nursery office.
- Confidentiality Policy will be followed throughout.
