Accidents and Emergencies
If your child has a minor accident during the nursery session, such as a bump from falling over, staff will comfort and attend to your child?s needs. All such accidents are recorded on an Accident Form and you will be informed of the accident and asked to sign and date the Accident Form when you collect your child. In the event of a child under two years receiving a bump to the head we will contact the parents immediately to inform them. All forms will be held on file in the Office for reference.
Should the accident be of a more serious nature which we feel requires medical attention, every effort will be made to contact you or your emergency contact so that you can collect and take your child to the hospital or GP. Should we be unable to contact you or your emergency contact, your child?s key worker and the Manager will take your child to the hospital, or an ambulance will be called. We would continue to try to contact you or your emergency contact to inform you of the situation. In a serious medical emergency we will call an ambulance and then contact parents or emergency contact. We will take your child?s Registration Form, Medical Waiver, Care Plan and any current Medication Forms to the hospital with us, to inform any treatment; therefore we advise that parents provide complete and accurate information on Registration, and keep this up to date.
If a child shows signs of an injury or illness, which we feel requires further investigation, such as a deep cut or rash, we will try to contact you in the first instance. If we are unable to contact you we will seek advice from the local Pharmacist.
If your child has an accident out with the nursery which causes bruising or a wound, please advise nursery staff so that extra care can be taken. As you will be aware it is our responsibility to be alert to children?s welfare, and ongoing communication means that misunderstandings do not arise.
